Waterloo snow plows are busy Monday morning

Snowy weather makes for a busy day for plow workers.

Monday morning Daniel Greer with the Waterloo Streets Department worked to clear the snow, and on a day like this Greer will likely put in 16 hours.

"I'm just going to come by today and clean up around parked cars and make it look a lot neater," said Greer.

It's long day, but he knows that's what he needs to do to make the roads safe. He says when the weather gets bad, it's up to the police to make the decision if the plows are needed overnight.

The streets department uses a mixture of salt and snow to help clear up the roads.

"The salt starts the de-icing process and sand gives traction," said Greer.

He is just one worker trying to make the roads safe and he has one piece of advice for drivers when the plows are on the road.

"Kindly of get out of the way and let us do our job. We are just cleaning the streets and making it safer for people to get around," said Greer. "If they would help us out by getting out of our way and getting off the streets to let us do our thing and not drive close to us we could get the roads more clean efficiently."
