Giants beat Niners in OT, Super Bowl next

The New York Giants took advantage of a fumbled punt to beat the San Francisco 49ers 20-17 in overtime to capture the NFC championship and send the Giants to their second Super Bowl in five seasons. Dating back to their last Super Bowl run, the Giants have won five straight playoff games on the road -- extending their NFL record.

Lawrence Tynes kicked a game-winning 31-yard field goal on the Giants' third possession of OT. It's the second game-winning kick for Tynes in an NFC title game.

The winning kick came after the Niners' Kyle Williams fumbled a punt return on San Francisco's second possession in OT. Devon  Thomas recovered to give the Giants great field possession.

Eli Manning had a great game for the Giants. He completed 32 of 58 passes for 316 yards and two TDs, including a 17-yard scored to Mario Manningham with 8:34 left in regulation. But David Akers kicked a 25-yard field goal for San Francisco with 5:39 left in regulation to tie it and force overtime.

This was the third NFC title game in the last five years to go OT. The Giants have won two of the three. The Giants are 5-0 overall in NFC championship games.
