Warriors survive shootout scare, move to 23-0

Just the slightest deflection was all it took.  Waterloo goaltender Chance Kremer got just enough of a touch on Dan Giles shot to send it over the crossbar sealing the team's 23rd straight win 2-1 in a shootout over the Des Moines Oak Leafs.

It was a victory that seemed very much in doubt throughout much of the contest.  Des Moines defenseman Clayton Huss opened the scoring with a goal midway through the first period.  Oak Leafs goaltender Thomas Doheny turned away every Warrior shot through the first 2 periods to hold the lead into the third.

The Warriors, however, would knot things up midway through the period.  Jon Skarlis rocketed a pass to Rhodes Dolan in front of the net.  Dolan would put it away to eventually send the game into a 3-man shootout.

The Warriors' Austin Jackson and Des Moines' Josh Simon would trade goals in the first attempt.  Kremer, however, turned away Michael Doheny's second attempt, while Skarlis went top shelf to give Waterloo a 2-1 edge.  Soon after, Kremer sealed the deal saving the attempt from Giles.

The dramatic win salvaged the Warriors perfect 23-0-0 record.  That goes on the line again next Sunday as Waterloo hosts Quad Cities.
