VINTON (KWWL) -
A Benton County hospital is unveiling a new digital mammography machine. Doctors say digital mammography provides a clearer image than other technology and provides options to women afraid of the pain of a traditional mammogram.
"With one in eight women dealing with breast cancer, being able to bring a diagnostic tool of this quality to Vinton is really a neat thing," said Mike Riege of Virginia Gay Hospital.
The machine was purchased with money raised in the community. Hospital officials say the machine is in a new suite that offers flexible scheduling and is better equipped to accommodate women using wheelchairs.
