Iowa City city council agrees to red light cameras

Posted:
IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

The Iowa City city council is moving forward with an ordinance to allow red light traffic cameras.

These cameras would only be on select Iowa City intersections.

The council voted four to three in favor of the cameras.

Officials say the cameras will be able to issue speeding and red light infraction tickets.

The ordinance would allow the city to form a contract with a private vendor to install the cameras with both entities splitting the profit made from citations.
