'Mega Monday' sees large shopping crowds

It's being dubbed "Mega Monday" and is suppose to be the third biggest shopping day of the year. Retailers expected big crowds Monday in Waterloo and for the most part got them.

"It's always a busy day. Combination of returns and bargains. We welcome them and take care of them," said Dan Hewitt, Kmart store manager.

Hewitt expected the day after Christmas to be a big shopping day mainly because of the sales, returns, and exchanges.

"They can return pretty much anything. If they don't have a receipt we give them a gift card," said Hewitt.

Shoppers Brice Mehrhoff and Affton Buchanan were two shoppers who did just that.

"We are just returning stuff that doesn't fit and out shopping looking for deals," said Buchanan.

Not only are people out using their gift cards and returning some of their Christmas items they are also shopping to get the good deals especially when almost all the Christmas items are on sale.

Kmart along with Walmart and Target are having 50% off of all their Christmas decor. While having sales on toys and clothes.

Its all an effort to end on a retail high note and for the retailers we talked to it appears to be working.

"Sales have been good," said Hewitt.

The National Retail Federation has predicted that holiday spending will be up nearly 4% this year.
