Outbreak of Norovirus in five Iowa counties

The Iowa Department of Public Health has received reports of eight medium to large outbreaks of probable norovirus in at least five counties.

Symptoms of norovirus include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach cramps. It usually begins 24 to 48 hours after exposure and can last up to two days.

The IDPH said three groups of people became ill after eating at a restaurant where one of the servers was sick.  Health officials also say this could spread easily at parties like those held during the holidays.

If a person thinks they have any of the symptoms, IDPH says don't prepare any food until symptoms are gone for at least 24 hours.
