Iowa state rep. Wenthe not running again

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) -- State Rep. Andrew Wenthe says he won't seek re-election in 2012.

The Democrat from Hawkeye in northeast Iowa was first elected to House District 18 in 2006. Redistricting after the 2010 census places Wenthe in the new House District 55, with Rep. Roger Thomas, a Democrat from Elkader.

Wenthe told the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier that he won't seek re-election next fall, leaving Thomas as the Democrat incumbent.

Wenthe cites work and family. He has taken on more responsibilities in his job as vice president for external affairs at Upper Iowa University. He got married this year, and he and wife are expecting a baby next year.
