A home health care worker from Clermont has been charged with stealing money from an 83-year old Elkader woman.

Elkader Police say Marie Germann, 47, of Clermont, was working for an Elkader home health care firm when she used the checks and credit cards of an 83-year old woman in her care to get over $20,000 in cash and merchandise.

Police say Germann forged checks to get cash from the woman's bank account and used her patient's credit cards to buy things from stores in Iowa and Wisconsin.

Police searched Germann's home on December 15 and arrested her later that day.

Germann is charged with ten counts of forgery by check, and one count each of credit card forgery, on-going criminal conduct, theft, and elder abuse.

She was released from jail on a $20,000 surety bond.
