UPDATE: New Hampton crash sends four to hospital

Four people from Minnesota were injured when their SUV collided with a semi on Highway 63 near New Hampton Thursday morning.

The accident happened just before 5:30 a.m. near the intersection with Mission Avenue.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Lakendrick Reed, Sr., 32, of St. Paul, Minnesota, was headed south on Highway 63 when he lost control of his Jeep and collided head-on with a semi driven by Steve Trifunov, 45, of Apple Valley, Minnesota.

Reed, his nine-year old son Lakendrick Reed II and seven-year old daughter Lanaya were taken to a local hospital by ambulance.  Another person in Reed's SUV, Angie Alexander, 28, was airlifted.

Trifunov was not injured.

The semi belongs to Standard Forwarding, LLC out of East Moline, Illinois.

The State Patrol says Reed was driving too fast for conditions.

Highway 63 was blocked for about five hours.
