Stolen trailer found, margarine still missing

A trailer that was stolen from an Elk Run Heights truck stop December 10th was found in Michigan, but the contents are still missing.

The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office says the trailer was found in a restaurant parking lot off Interstate 96 near Fowlerville, Michigan on Thursday, but the margarine that was being transported, is gone.

The trailer was parked in Elk Run Heights, waiting to be delivered to the Target Distribution Center in Cedar Falls, when it was stolen.

This is not the first stolen trailer the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Department has dealt with.  Captain Rick Abben says they have had three others stolen recently.  One contained beef jerky and was found in Dubuque, another contained dog food and was located in Michigan and one contained dental hygiene products.  That trailer has not been found.

Abben says while it's a problem here, it's been a bigger problem in Des Moines.  He says nationwide, losses from this type of theft reach about a billion dollars a year.
