Holiday recycling tips

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

With the Holidays upon us, soon you are going to be trying to figure out what to do with all those boxes, wrapping paper and other packing material.  Here are few tips to sort it all out.

In most cases, wrapping paper, tissue paper and styrofoam is not recyclable and must be placed in the garbage.

Shirt boxes, toy boxes and shredded paper are recyclable, just be sure to remove all plastic handles, twist ties and clear plastic windows.

Plastic bubble wrap can be recycled at grocery stores if the bubbles are popped.  Just place it with the plastic bags.

Natural Christmas trees can be recycled as well.  Each community handles them differently, so check with yours.  Generally, flocked Christmas trees cannot be recycled, so check with your city or town for their rules.

Nature centers will sometimes collect trees and turn them into mulch.

If you have questions, check with your city or local recycling center.
