DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Santa paid his annual visit Sunday afternoon to Hills and Dales in Dubuque.

He arrived in a fire truck, with its lights and siren blaring, as part of the 12th annual Hills and Dales 911 Christmas celebration.

Children visited with Santa, and dozens of Dubuque County EMS responders brought gifts for the nearly 50 residents.

Hills and Dales also received a check from EMS for more than $10,000 for a new playground. $6,000 of that came from the Tri-States' Largest Chili Cook-Off. The rest came from various fundraisers throughout the year.

One organizer, lead EMS dispatcher Vicki Leonard, said this is a form of holiday cheer that can spread nationwide.

"We've just had some really special things this year," Leonard said. "We received national recognition in a 911 journal about what we do here, in hoping that other agencies across the United States will maybe get something like this started."

Hills and Dales focuses on serving people with significant disabilities.
