Wartburg Choir performs in Washington, D.C.

The Wartburg Choir is performing twice in Washington, D.C. Saturday, December 17th.

In October, the choir got an invitation to possibly perform at the White House.

"It's really surreal that this whole thing came to be. They heard the choir on iTunes," said director Dr. Lee Nelson.

After an application process, which included sending recordings of songs, the choir was officially asked to perform at the White House.

"Tremendous honor for us. We feel very, very fortunate," said Dr. Nelson.

Then the choir got another invitation. This one to sing at the Bethlehem Prayer Service at the National Cathedral.

The choir is performing at the prayer service around 9 a.m. Saturday morning and then singing at the White House from 3 to 8:30 p.m.

62 students made the trip from Waverly to Washington, D.C.

Choir director Dr. Lee Nelson said the choir tours internationally every three years, but there's never been an opportunity or experience quite like this one.

"To receive an invitation like this is something we're really proud of," said Dr. Nelson.
