AOTW - Madison Baier

TAMA (KWWL) -

Standing 6 foot 4 inches Madison Baier of South Tama is a presence to anyone who enters the lane.

"She's a huge presence on the inside, she commands the middle everybody's aware of where she's at all times offensively and defensively, and I think more than anything she means a great deal to us defensively because it gives our guars a chance to overplay." head coach Nate Roberts said.

Last season, Baier averaged a staggering 4.5 block per game and that has only improved on that this season. Already up to 21 blocks and is averaging nearly 9 boards a game for the 7-0 Trojans. On the offensive side of the ball, she is leading the number one ranked class 3A Trojans with 17 points per game.

After an intense off season and Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) ball, Baier came back this season refreshed and relaxed, knowing that next season she will be playing basketball for the Iowa State Cyclones.

"I was just going to my mom's office and she was like Nate says you need to answer your phone when it rings. I'm like ok, ok and then she's like, she started crying and I was like why are you crying mom… She's like I can't keep secrets Iowa State's going to offer you a full ride and then she called and I was trying to keep it all chill like I didn't know and when he offered me I cried tears of joy and told him yes." Athlete of the Week Madison Baier said.

For now, Baier and the Trojans are focused on the next game and are as close as any group of girls, you will meet and that is just a part of what will take them to the next level.
