CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Kirkwood Community College has agreed to buy a Hiawatha building for its new regional education center in Linn County.

The building, located at 1 Martha's Way, is owned by Transamerica and was most recently occupied by PAETEC who has built a new facility in Hiawatha.

The 98,061 square foot building, which sits on 11.47 acres will be sold to Kirkwood for $5.7 million.

Kirkwood says the new regional center will serve students from at least eleven high schools in places like Vinton, Cedar Rapids, Marion, Center Point and Mt. Vernon.

Kirkwood will sell their Marion Center facility at 2900 8th Avenue and all programming will move to the new center.

Funding for the new center comes from the college's bond issue which was approved by voters in September.
