Former Elkader man caught using hidden camera in a bathroom

A Clayton County District Court judge has sentenced a former Elkader man to 60 days in jail after he was discovered videotaping a woman in a bathroom with a hidden camera.

Michael Koresh, age 38, was discovered to have been videotaping a woman using a hidden camera in the bathroom in his home.

Police were notified and an Elkader police officer stopped Koresh's pickup truck following the report.

Koresh refused to comply with the officer's orders and he was held at gun point until a sheriff's deputy could arrive to assist. Upon arrival, the deputy discovered Koresh concealing a loaded 9mm pistol at his side and a standoff ensued, with Koresh holding the weapon to his head.

Koresh eventually surrendered and the pistol and 250 rounds of ammunition were seized. A search warrant for Koresh's computer was executed and a forensic examination recovered multiple images taken from October 2010 to February 2011.

Koresh pleaded guilty to fifteen of thirty-two original charges of invasion of privacy, one count of carrying weapons and two violations of a protective order. He will serve sixty days in jail, be required to register as a sex offender, and be placed on probation for a period of two to five years.

As a result of his sex offender status, he will also be under the supervision of the Department of Corrections for a period of up to ten years. Elkader Police were aided in their investigation by the Clayton County Attorney's Office and staff from the Cedar Rapids office of the Internet Crimes Against Children task force.
