House fire keeps Shellsburg crews busy

For the second time in less than 24 hours, firefighters battle a blaze at a home near Shellsburg.

Crews spent several hours this afternoon putting out a fire at this house just northwest of Shellsburg. The family was in the process of rebuilding the home, and live in an RV on the same property.

Firefighters extinguished a smaller fire at the house late Friday night. Laurie and Randy Hansen were running errands Saturday when a neighbor called and told them it was burning again.

Laurie's sister Deb Gatewood said, this is not the first time the family has lost their home.

"In 2008 they lost their house to the flood, got that redone. and then they bought a place out here over complications with the house. So they bought this property. This summer earlier a tornado took their big pole barn and a lot of the house," said Gatewood.

The family lost most of their belongings in that wind storm this summer. They were storing their furniture and other items in the pole barn while the house was under construction.

We're still waiting to hear exactly what started the blaze.
