McGraw-Hill distribution center closing

The McGraw-Hill center in the Dubuque Industrial Park West will be closing in March.

McGraw-Hill spokesperson Mary Skafidas told our coverage partners at the Dubuque Telegraph Herald that McGraw-Hill Companies is reducing its workforce by 10 percent, eliminating 550 jobs nationwide.

In Dubuque, the cuts will affect about 50 full-time employees.

"Our numbers are moving more toward a digital delivery and content business," Skafidas said. "As a result...the distribution center is no longer necessary."

Most of the layoffs are expected to be complete by the current fourth quarter.

Some employees in McGraw-Hill Higher Education in the Port of Dubuque will also be affected, but no specific amount has been announced yet, she said.

Skafidas also said some of the positions are seasonal and some would likely be converted to full time.
