Christmas season creates high demand for "ugly sweaters"

The ugliest Christmas sweater party craze is in full swing this year. People all over are trying to find the perfect sweater.

"It lightens the season. It's a stressful season, so it's time to have fun as well," Troy Weaver, Waverly Goodwill Store Mgr, said.

From multi-color sweaters to sweaters with snowflakes to just plain color sweaters, Weaver said he understands the Christmas sweater craze.

"A lot of college kids come out and buy sweaters because of the ugliest sweater craze going on, but we have all kinds of sweaters," Weaver said.

"I think my favorite part is just seeing everybody walk in with their Christmas sweater, and sometimes if they can't find a Christmas sweater, they come in with totally outrageous clothes they found at Goodwill," Michelle Stone, local shopper, said.

Stone said her family usually partakes in the ugliest Christmas sweater parties.

"My mom came with an embroidered-beautiful embroidered-Christmas sweater one year. We all got a kick out of it," Stone said.

Not only do you benefit by finding the best Christmas sweater, but Weaver said Goodwill benefits as well.

"There are some out there where you say 'Should we even put it out?' Because it's that ugly, but someone buys it. So we put it out since its good quality," Weaver said.

Goodwill said they do not increase the price of Christmas sweaters during the season.
