New workforce access points available in Johnson Co.
JOHNSON COUNTY (KWWL) -
Johnson County residents are now able to access Iowa Workforce Development services through computer technology in more locations than just the IowaWORKS Center located at 1700 1st Ave. in the Eastdale Plaza. There are currently 15 locations in the county where the community has partnered with Iowa Workforce Development to provide job searching and other services to local residents. Not all locations are open to the general public, as these sites serve special populations of job seekers.
There are seven locations open to the public with varying hours, allowing computer access to job seekers beyond the typical work week. These service locations are supported by trained workforce professionals via a "live chat" feature that allows customers to ask workforce related questions of IWD staff or toll-free at 866-239-0843. This feature is available M-F 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Partnerships with the Iowa City Public Library, Coralville Public Library, North Liberty Community Library, and Solon Public Library allow for computer access during the expanded hours. Five additional sites open to the public include the Iowa City Police Substation, Proteus, Johnson County Neighborhood Center – Broadway location, University of Iowa Pomerantz Career Center and University of Iowa Employment Services Center.
Some of the services available through the access point software program include: job search and résumé development assistance, interview preparation, skills assessment and testing tools, access to local and statewide employment opportunities, veteran services, workforce trends and other labor market information, and on-line computer skills training.
