IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

An Iowa City woman, who knows the man charged with attempted murder for an attack on an Iowa City police officer, is charged with tearing down reward posters.

Police were called to the Kum and Go at 323 E. Burlington Street at around 9:40 p.m. Tuesday because a woman came in and tore down four reward posters and left the store with them.

The posters had been placed in the store announcing a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a man accused of trying to kill Sgt. Brian Krei on November 18.  That man was identified as Branden Leo Plummer, 20.  He was arrested on Tuesday night.

Police were able to track down the woman, Elyse Nicole Destefano, 21, with the help of security video.

When police met with Destefano at her apartment, she admitted to tearing down the posters and tearing them up.  She said she "freaked out" because she knew the man on the posters was Plummer and she didn't want anyone else to recognize him.  Destefano said that her roommate is dating Plummer's roommate.

Destefano is charged with fifth degree criminal mischief.
