WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Waterloo Police have identified a man they say stole a vehicle as a couple were preparing to take their newborn baby home.

On May 28, Richard Gronowski and his wife Cindy were preparing to take their newborn baby boy home.  Richard had pulled their 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer up in front of Covenant Medical Center and left it running while he went inside to get his wife and son.  When they came outside, the vehicle was gone.

The couple were upset about the missing SUV, but even more upset about all the gifts and family videos of their son's birth that were inside when it was stolen.

On June 1, police found the Trailblazer in Buckeye.  Inside the vehicle were all the gifts and videos the family was missing. Police also found a Mountain Dew bottle in the vehicle.

The state crime lab was able to match DNA from the pop bottle with the known DNA of 33-year-old Troy Allen Clarkson of Grimes.

Tuesday, Waterloo Police charged Clarkson with first degree theft. Clarkson is currently in the Dallas County Jail on a variety of charges related to a criminal investigation there including burglary, trespassing and theft.
