Bridge dividing Shell Rock finally reopens

People in one Butler County community are finally able to drive over a bridge that's been under construction for months.  The Cherry Street bridge through the middle of Shell Rock closed in April, literally splitting the town in half.

Construction was expected to be finished by now, but the completion date was pushed back multiple times.  The city says some rain days slowed construction.  This fall, crews were forced to wait for the final side railing pieces to arrive and be installed before the project could be completed.

Some area business owners say business suffered greatly while the bridge was closed.  They're just hopeful that customers will come back now that construction is finished.

Most of the $2 million price tag for the bridge reconstruction was covered by grant funding.  The city of Shell Rock contributed about $500,000.
