Michele Bachmann's book tour stops in Waterloo

Michele Bachmann may have fallen from the top of the polls in Iowa, but she is hoping to top the best seller list with the release of her autobiography "Core of Conviction." So, appropriately, Bachmann is launching her book tour in Waterloo, a few weeks before the Iowa caucus.

"Those values from 'Core of Conviction' were grounded here in Waterloo, Iowa. This is where the book began," Bachmann said Friday.

As Bachmann was quick to point out - several times - she is originally from Waterloo. Several of her family members, who still live in the Cedar Valley, spent their Friday waiting for a quick hello from their well-known cousin.

"Oh gosh, she's so busy! I talk to her people with text messaging and that, and try to figure out where she's going to be. But she's one busy lady! She's got more energy than me," Bachmann's cousin Lori Schissel said.

Many of those waiting in line can appreciate Bachmann's energy, and her values. Char Stone, for one, has supported Bachmann for years, and the Webster City native jumped at the chance to meet her in person.

"Well, like it says, she has a core of conviction. And she stands by them. And I appreciate someone in Washington that has convictions they're willing to stand for," Stone said.

So is this a book tour, a political rally, or a little of both? Either way, Bachmann believes it's the kind of visit that will, eventually, lead to the White House.

"Iowa's the cannon shot. This is where Barack Obama got his start, and this is where I hope to have President Bachmann get her start too-- in Waterloo, Iowa."

This is the beginning of a long weekend in Iowa for Bachmann. She spent the rest of the evening in Dubuque, and will head to Cedar Rapids for a book signing Saturday morning. She's also stopping in Des Moines, Sioux City, and Council Bluffs.
