UPDATE: Thanksgiving Eve crash kills 71-year old man

One driver died and another was injured late Wednesday afternoon in a Black Hawk County traffic accident. The crash, at the intersection of Highway 63 and C-57, claimed the life of 71-year-old Joseph C. Pink from Madison, Wisconsin. The Iowa State Patrol says the Wisconsin man, driving a 2008 Toyota Corolla, was westbound on C-57, also known as Cedar-Wapsie Road.

Around 3:50 p.m., he tried to cross the southbound lanes of heavily-traveled Highway 63, but was struck broadside by a 1999 F250 Ford pick up truck, driven by 70-year old Garth Harold Beatty from Vinton. Mount was transporting a 1950's Oliver antique tractor on a flatbed trailer when he broadsided the car, the Iowa State Patrol said.

Pink's car ended up in the west ditch, just south of the Highway 63, C-57 intersection. The truck also ended up in the ditch, after flipping over on its top. The impact of the crash caused the trailer carrying the tractor to break loose from the truck, and part of the trailer came to rest on top of the truck.

The Denver ambulance crew transported the Beatty to Allen Hospital, but the extent of his injuries was not released.

The Iowa State Patrol said both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
