Eastern Iowa communities move forward in Blue Zone selection

DES MOINES (KWWL) -

Several eastern Iowa cities are still in the running to be picked as a Blue Zones demonstration site. 58 cities across the state were selected to move forward in the process.

Blue Zone demonstration sites are areas where people work to live healthier lives. Communities selected as Blue Zone communities are chosen to be models for other cities.

"Narrowing the field was extremely difficult," said Laura Jackson, Wellmark Executive Vice President. "We are inspired by the commitment shown statewide and encourage those communities not selected this round to continue to make environmental changes that improve the well-being of their families, friends and neighbors.  We sincerely hope that any community that is interested in transforming their environment will continue their journey – and our goal is to help them."
