Water tower work in Cedar Rapids could cause some discoloration for some

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Work on a Cedar Rapids water tower next week could cause some discoloration for some customers.

The Cedar Rapids Water Division will be inspecting the C Street water tower November 28 through November 30.  The tower has been in continuous operation since 1995.

They say this work will require opening valves that are not opened during normal operation.  This could cause iron sediment to be stirred up, resulting in discoloration of the water.

This discoloration does not pose a health risk, but people are asked not to use the water for cleaning or clothes washing until the water runs clear again.  The water is safe to drink.

Customers may also experience some slight changes in water pressure.

The water division says this work will impact customers on the southwest side of the city south of Wilson Avenue and east of 6th Street.
