Lincoln Elementary hosts community dinner

Lincoln Elementary in Waterloo held its second community Thanksgiving dinner Sunday afternoon. The free meal provided a traditional turkey dinner, complete with all the fixins to anyone who wanted it.

Volunteers cooked and served the meal, including teachers and members of the Waterloo Blackhawks hockey team.

The school also gathered hundreds of bags of non perishable items to send home with people who had come for the meal.

"Our partners in education helped us, not only with canned goods. Every family that leaves here will leave here with a bag of canned food today as well. Our partners in education helped us with the canned food drive that goes with this, as well as monetary and food donations for our dinner today" said Stephanie Mohorne, the principal of Lincoln Elementary.

Last year the community meal fed more than 400 people. This year school officials wanted to increase that number to 500 or more.
