DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Employees of Flynn Ready-Mix Concrete Company are having to re-apply for their positions as the company changes hands at the end of November.

This 66-year-old family-owned business has a location in Dubuque, Bernard, Epworth and in Maquoketa, where it is called Century Concrete, a subsidiary owned by Flynn. In Illinois, the company has four more locations: in Galena, Stockton, Warren and Monroe. In Monroe, the company is called Green Valley Ready Mix.

Company owner Tom Flynn didn't immediately return KWWL's phone calls Friday, but his brother Steve Flynn, manager of Century Concrete, said in a phone call Friday the new owners take over Monday, Nov. 28.

Manatts construction company of Brooklyn, Iowa has bought the Maquoketa location.

All the other Flynn locations are going to BARD Materials of Dyersville.

Steve Flynn said current employees must re-apply with the new companies.

Adam Manatt, of Manatts, Inc., said most of the six employees in the Maquoketa location have already applied to his company. He said the concrete industry is seasonal and now entering the off-season.
