It doesn't take long to see that Dike-New Hartford Freshman Briana Weber is a stand out talent.
"She's been a very steady consistent performer for us and we have a lot of confidence in her and she has a lot of confidence in herself." head coach Diane Harms said.
Weber was only one year old the last time this storied program won the state championship in 1997. Now at age 15, she has truly come into her own leading the state in Class 2A with and astounding 441 kills this season, but the drive for a state title came years ago.
"Probably started in third grade and it was just a lot of fun because I liked hitting the ball around. It does hurt your arms at first but once you get used to it, it's a lot of fun." Athlete of the Week Briana Weber said.
Briana's mother, Dawn Weber, helped Dike to a state championship in 1986 and 1987 and from day one it was her dream to see her daughter follow in her footsteps.
"I always wanted my daughter to experience some of what I had experienced and for her to experience it as a freshman is really unbelievable," Dawn Weber said.
After AAU championships 6 pack Nationals and now being named the All-Tournament team captain as a freshman, there is no telling what this young talent can accomplish.
