One injured when competing garbage trucks collide

One person was injured when two competing garbage trucks collided at a railroad crossing in Linn County Wednesday.

Linn County deputies were called to County Home Road, just west of North Mentzer Road, for an accident involving two garbage trucks at around 10:11 a.m.

According to deputies, Andrew Paul Chrisman, 37, of Urbana, stopped his Waste Management truck at the railroad crossing for a train.  Deputies say Donald Joseph Redenbaugh, Jr., 49, of Ryan, did not notice Chrisman's truck had stopped and crashed into it while trying to avoid it.

Redenbaugh's Rudd Sanitation truck became wedged between a guardrail and Chrisman's truck.

Chrisman was not injured, but Redenbaugh was taken to Mercy Medical Center for what deputies call non-life threatening injuries.

Redenbaugh is charged with failure to stop in an assured clear distance.
