Paterno name off Big 10 trophy

The Big Ten is taking Joe Paterno's name off its football championship trophy.

Investigations are under way into allegations of child sex-abuse involving one of Paterno's former assistants.

Penn State fired its longtime head coach last week amid claims he did not do enough to alert authorities of an alleged assault that was brought to his attention.

The trophy had been named the Stagg-Paterno Championship Trophy. Amos Alonzo Stagg won 319 games in 57 years, most at the University of Chicago. Paterno's 409 wins are the most by a major college coach.

The trophy will now be called the Stagg Championship Trophy and will be handed out after the Big Ten's first conference championship game on Dec. 3.
