Packers defense excels in rout of Vikings

Just what the rest of the NFL does not want to hear: now the Green Bay Packers have a defense too.

Aaron Rodgers produced another four-touchdown performance in the Packers' 45-7 rout of Minnesota that pushed Green Bay's record to a perfect 9-0, the last undefeated mark in the NFL. Rodgers has 28 TD passes on the season.

But the real surprise came on the other side of the ball, a defense that finally showed it can take charge of a game and can complement the Packers high-octane offense.

Rodgers threw for four scores against a fierce Vikings pass rush. Randall Cobb returned a punt 80 yards for a touchdown.

But the big change was the Packers defense contained Adrian Peterson, holding him to 51 yards rushing.

Green Bay's defense came into the game giving up nearly 300 yards passing per game. But the Packers held rookie quarterback Christian Ponder to 190 yards passing with an interception. The Vikes fell to 2-7 on the season.

The Packers own a 3-game lead over Detroit and Chicago in the NFC North race.
