Iowa City couple faces child endangerment charges

An Iowa City couple now faces charges of child endangerment following a weekend incident at their home.

35-year-old Anacleto Lopez-Dejesus and his girlfriend, 25-year-old Angelica Fernandez-Martinez, were arrested Sunday morning after an eight-year-old child at the home called 911 for help.

When police arrived at the home in the 2400 block of Highway 6, Lopez-Dejesus answered the door.  Officers say he had blood shot and watery eyes, poor balance, smelled of alcohol, and admitted to drinking.  The home's living room was covered in broken glass.  His girlfriend and her three children, ages 4, 6, and 8, were walking barefoot on the glass.  Fernandez-Martinez  was also intoxicated.

Officers felt neither adult showed responsibility for the health and safety of the children.  So both have been charged with three counts of child endangerment.
