Waterloo Columbus students host dollar drive

Waterloo Columbus High School students need your help collecting food and money from now until Thanksgiving for St. Vincent De Paul.

"All of us at Columbus have more than enough, and we should help out those who don't," said student Regan McLaughlin.

Each grade is competing to bring in the most money. Then, St. Vincent De Paul will use the money to buy food for holiday baskets for Cedar Valley families.

"They are able to feed 16,000 families in the Cedar Valley, so we're motivated to help our community," said McLaughlin.

Each dollar donated buys six cans of food, and this year the students changed their goal.

"This year we decided to up our goal to 100,000 can equivalents because as seniors we said we wanted to leave a legacy behind and this is one of the ways we chose to do it," said student Abby Greenwood.

Donations can be dropped off at the Columbus High School office. Make checks out to St. Vincent De Paul. All donations need to be at the school by Tuesday, November 22nd.

"This community helps each of us in some way, and it will in the future, too. So I feel like each of us needs to do our part," said Greenwood.
