Grundy Center and Dike-New Hartford advance to State Volleyball Semifinals

Fourth ranked Grundy Center looked to make a return trip to the semis, but had Sheldon standing in their way.

The Spartans roll through the first set 25-16 behind the play of Katie McMartin.

In the second set, Sarah Frish tallied 11 kills for Grundy Center as they take the 25-23.

The Spartans go for the sweep in the third and they get it, 25-20, behind Samantha Meyer's team high 19 kills.

"Well, our big topic is squeeze. Once we get ahead we just want to squeeze and not let anyone get back in the game. So, we just tried to finish it off," said Meyer.

The Spartans will take on Western Christian on Friday at 6:00 p.m.

Dike-New Hartford then took on West Liberty in the late match.

Freshman phenom Briana Weber gets the tie for the Wolverines and Sara Koch puts on the finishing touch as Dike-New Hartford wins the first 25-22.

The defense comes up big in the second and comes away with a 25-14 win behind a big block from Sadie Eden.

The Wolverines would get the sweep behind Weber's 14 kills.  They win the third 25-22 and will take on Lake Mills at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
