Andrew Connolly Day of Service in Dubuque

Volunteers in Dubuque gathered Wednesday to honor the memory of Andrew Connolly, an Iraq War veteran, who died in August of service-related cancer.

Volunteers teamed up with Connolly's widow to help move a tri-states veterans community center into its new home.

Connolly spent a lot of time at the Veterans Freedom Center in Dubuque, and friends say he lived a life of "paying it forward."

"It's been emotional but it's also been, I don't know, it's been awesome," his widow Jennifer Connolly said Wednesday. "So much support and so much love, and I'm glad that this is a way we can show our support. I mean, this is what Andrew loved, was the Veterans Center."

Organizers say they plan on making the Andrew Connolly Day of Service an annual tradition.
