Honoring PFC Christopher Horns

CALMAR (KWWL) -

Saturday morning, family and friends honored the life of PFC Christopher Horns' at his funeral in Calmar. The Army Ranger died October 22nd while serving in Afghanistan.

Horns was from Colorado, but many of his extended family members live in Northeast Iowa. Saturday he was honored for his actions with the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart. Patriot Guard Riders from at least three states accompanied Horns' body from Colorado to Iowa.

"The time we spend on the flag line is insignificant compared with the sacrifice he made. It's a way to show the family somebody cares, somebody honors that loss, and we don't forget," said the National President of the Patriot Guard Riders, George Winslow, Jr.

Horns requested to have his ashes spread across the mountains in Colorado, where his parents and sister currently live. He would have turned 21 on November 10th -- just five days after his funeral.
