Alleged "Bishop Bomber" won't be released from jail

A Dubuque man charged with mailing threatening letters and dud pipe bombs to investment firms in Denver and Kansas City, Missouri in an effort to drive up stock prices has been denied release from jail.

John Tomkins has been in custody at a Chicago's Metropolitan Correctional Center since his 2007 arrest.

He is currently awaiting trial.

Tomkins, who signed the letters as "the bishop," argued his incarceration was unconstitutional.

Tomkins is representing himself after firing three attorneys.

His trial is scheduled for April 2012.
