Christmas shopping season begins

The holiday season has started early. As soon as trick-or-treating wrapped up, retailers were taking the wraps off Christmas decorations - and merchandise. In fact, some are already holding sales and leaking information on what goes on sale Black Friday - the day after Thanksgiving.

Sandi Brennan stopped by the target store in Waterloo to get a deal - but not for Christmas. She says despite all the signs of the season, her Christmas shopping can wait.

"I don't think it forces me to shop for Christmas any earlier. I may think about it but I won't change anything by seeing decorations. It actually makes me kinda lay back more," Brennan said.

But retailers are hoping early shoppers give them a November boost. Barbie, Elmo, the trees, and the name tags are there - but for how long?

"Even this weekend already, there's been tons of people coming in, more than past weekends. I can definitely feel an increase in guest traffic. I feel like people are already trying to get a jump on it so they don't miss out on those deals," Target's Dana Roberts said.

Jim Trunnell isn't shopping for Christmas yet for his two young children but he says the displays can get him thinking that way.

"I think it just reminds us we need to start finding out what the kids are interested in, start looking for those things and start watching for sales and everything," Trunnell said .

The nation's largest retailer - Wal-Mart is having a sale starting this weekend - while some websites are giving details about what those Black Friday sales will be. Target is one retailer opening at Midnight on Black Friday.
