Members question unexpected withdrawal from local gym

World Wide Fitness is still open and their members continue to get in top physical shape, but this business has had a bumpy ride since it opened in March of 2010.

A number of lawsuits have been filed by contractors, the building's landlord, and even local media for unpaid services.

Owner Jim Holmes did not want to go on camera, but he did talk to us by phone. He says as owner he's not been perfect, there have been lawsuits, and things have not gone as planned. He also says this website is full of lies and the some of the comments posted on the site have been hurtful.

In September Holmes sent a statement to current and past employees. Referring to the lawsuits, he said, "All but two have 100% been paid." When talking about some of the contractors, Holmes said, "A lot of them looked at us as being young and inexperienced and took us to the cleaners."

As for a recent unexpected $15.00 charge to clients, Holmes went to Facebook to smooth things over, saying the charge was for an annual fee and it is meant to be taken out in January. Since then it has been credited back to his clients' accounts and World Wide Fitness will be waiving this year's annual fee.

Holmes says he currently has around 2,000 members. He's looking to move World Wide Fitness to Thunder Ridge Mall on Cedar Falls' west side.
