Iowans apply for Iowa appeals court opening

The judicial nominating commission says 18 people have applied for a spot on the Iowa Court of Appeals.

The opening is being created by the retirement of Chief Judge Rosemary Sackett.

She is stepping down in January because of the mandatory retirement age for Iowa judges, which is 72-years-old.

On Monday, The commission of 15 people said it will interview the applicants on November eighth and ninth in Des Moines.

After the interviews, the commission will pick three nominees to send to Governor Terry Brandstad, who will appoint a new judge.
