FAYETTE COUNTY (KWWL) -

A Fayette County magistrate is facing animal abuse charges after an investigation found dead and neglected horses on his property.

Larry F. Woods, 62, of Oelwein, is charged with two counts of animal neglect and two counts of duty to dispose of dead carcasses.

Deputies executed search warrants on two properties owned by Woods at 8586 and 9289 N Avenue.  A licensed veterinarian determined that the all the animals at both locations were suffering from some level of neglect.  Eight horses were taken for treatment to an undisclosed location and six horses are being treated by a veterinarian at the farms.

Deputies also discovered two diseased horse carcasses that they say Woods did not properly dispose of.

Woods was not arrested, but will appear in court on a later date.
