AOTW -- Allison Gregg

Allison Greg of Cedar Falls has exhibited all the traits one looks for when it comes to a stellar cross country runner. Leading the Tigers this season Gregg blazed to a first place finish in the state qualifying meet with a time of 15:13.

"She brings a lot of leadership, she's got a lot of energy a lot of enthusiasm, she's very positive kid and the kids just enjoy following her, she brings a lot to the team beside speed," said Tiger Head Coach Don Williams

Gregg's speed led her to an overall second place finish at the state meet last season and has her motivated to top that this season. But it wasn't until last season that Gregg decided to pick up cross country, and in her first season as a sophomore Gregg led the Tigers to a fifth place overall finish at the State Cross Country meet.

"After my freshmen year in track I just pretty much got addicted to running and I love the girls who are doing it and the environment and of course coach Don. He's just such and awesome person so I thought I'd give cross country a try and I'm glad I did," said Allison Gregg.

In the second week of the season everything changed for the Tigers and coach Don Williams. Coach Williams suffered a bike accident and spent nine days in the hospital. With the girls on his mind he was able to recover.

"It was a struggle the first day I came out to practice I had to sit in a lawn chair I could barley make it over here from the car so I sat down. I just couldn't wait to get back to the kids. This is my passion," said coach Williams.

Now back running himself, Coach Williams has instilled more of that motivation in the girls, and Allison Gregg.

"When he went down in his accident it was devastation because he's such and encouragement at practice but all of the girls stepped up and took on a little bit more of a leadership roll and it's just awesome to have him out there cheering for us because he's so encouraging."
