Grundy Co. extension gets grant for education program

Grundy County Extension is receiving a $9,000 grant to help fund its agriculture safety program for kids.

The donation comes from the Monsanto Fund, the philanthropic arm of the Monsanto Company.  Grundy County Extension offers agricultural, business, family and 4-H programs and resources to Grundy County citizens.  The extension will utilize the grant to purchase materials, supplies and safety education kits for next spring's Progressive Agriculture Safety Day.

"Progressive Agriculture Safety Day has been going on for many years.  In Grundy County, 250 to 300 youth come together to learn about agriculture issues such as first aid and electrical safety," said Andrea Traeger, Grundy County 4-H & Youth coordinator.

Tim Case, Monsanto site lead, was excited to play a part in the donation.

"I am very pleased that the Grundy County Extension received the Monsanto grant," Case said.  "They are deserving of this award because they touch a tremendous amount of kids in Grundy County from kindergarten through fourth grade and stress the importance of safety at home and on the farm," Case said.

The grant is part of a broad commitment by the Monsanto Fund, which is focused on strengthening farming communities, as well as the communities where Monsanto's employees live and work.
