Barmuda closing Beck's Thunder Ridge

Barmuda Companies is closing the Thunder Ridge location of Beck's Sports Grill, citing economic conditions and poor store performance as the cause.

"It's been a rough time at that location due to the economy and overall lack of traffic in that area.  We've enjoyed serving the people who live in the area and Darin and I want to thank all of our loyal neighbors who shared our vision for the area.  We truly regret having to close the store and hope our neighbors will come see us at one of our other Beck's locations. All of our employees have been offered to stay on with the company at one of our other stores," Barmuda's chief operating officer Matt Smiley said in a written statement.

The location first opened in March 2010. This is the fourth business Barmuda has closed within a matter of months.  Back in August, Barmuda suddenly closed Black's 501 Steakhouse and Piano Bar, along with the Sky Event Centre in downtown Waterloo.  Shortly after that, the Bourbon Street restaurant in Grinnell was closed.

"We've really had to make some hard decisions this year at Barmuda.  We have had to downsize our entire workforce and eliminate properties that aren't showing signs of turning around.  There simply isn't enough profit in our successful establishments to continue hanging on to poor performing properties. It's been hard to face the reality of this economy.  We've had to eliminate about half of our corporate payroll and that has taken a toll on every division of our company from operations to marketing.  The good news is, it looks like we're about done having to make cut backs and closing any more stores.  It feels like we're finally turning the corner and we're very grateful for our loyal customer base that's stuck with us through these hard times," said Barmuda CEO Darin Beck.
