FLOYD COUNTY (KWWL) -

A wrong way driver is believed to be the cause of an accident that killed the driver and another person on Thursday morning.

Troopers from the Iowa State Patrol responded to a two vehicle accident on Highway 27, just north of mile marker 216, around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Troopers say a car driven by 35-year-old Erin Lorraine Heffron of Rudd, was southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 27 and hit a semi driven by 71-year-old Malcolm C. Davis of Wautoma, Wisc., head-on.

According to the crash report, the collision caused the semi to roll and burst into flames.

Both Heffron and Davis died as a result of the accident.  Troopers say Davis was wearing his seatbelt, but Heffron was not wearing hers.

Davis was driving for Weiland Trucking Company, Inc. out of Wautoma, Wisc.

The accident remains under investigation.
