Cedar Falls company successfully emerges from bankruptcy

A Cedar Valley company is finding success after emerging from bankruptcy five years ago.  Wayne Engineering in Cedar Falls makes garbage trucks and recently launched a street sweeper division.  Tuesday, the company hosted dealers from across North America that sell its products.  Post-bankruptcy, Wayne has been able to grow its work force to more than 100 employees and double its sales records.  The company credits its commitment to new technology, like a newly unveiled truck with improved gas mileage, for its success.

"In the last three to four years, what we've done very aggressively is trying to build new products, as we see here, that would enhance our market position and make us a little more attractive to our customers in the marketplace," said Kevin Watje, Wayne Engineering president.

Wayne Engineering hopes it will continue to be successful with that new technology and the expansion of its street sweeper division.  The company has been able to recruit major cities across the country, including Phoenix and Dallas, to purchase its products.
