A two car crash west of Tiffin killed one teen and injured seven others. It happened around 5:30 p.m. on Monday at the intersection of Highway 6 and Half Moon Road.

Fourteen-year-old Mackenzie Lown of Amana was killed in the accident.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Zachary Swenka was driving eastbound on Highway 6 when he lost control about two and a half miles west of Tiffin.  Swenka went onto the gravel shoulder then tried to correct himself and crossed the center line of Highway 6.

A van driven by 47-year-old Bryan Cooling hit Swenka's car.  The van stayed on the road while Swenka's car went into the ditch.

Lown was riding in Swenka's car and was killed in the accident. Swenka and four other passengers in the vehicle were injured, including 15-year-old Daniel Brechtel of North Liberty, 16-year-old Dustin Cox of Oxford, 14-year-old Chloe Keith of Tiffin and 14-year-old Claire Riggan of Oxford.  The teens were taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics by ambulance and Air Care. According to the Iowa State Patrol, everyone in the car was wearing a seatbelt.

Cooling was injured along with a passenger in the van, 42-year-old Toni Harney Cooling. They were also taken to UIHC.

According to a Facebook memorial page, Lown's classmates will be wearing black on Tuesday in honor of her. Lown was a freshman at Clear Creek Amana High School.
